Scandit is a Zurich-based software company that provides software development kits (SDKs) for barcode scanning, ID document capture and other computer-vision tasks. Developers use these SDKs to add data capture to mobile apps, web applications and devices. According to the company, ID data is processed on the device. The SDKs run as libraries inside the customer's own applications, so the architecture of each app largely determines which data leaves the device.
Scandit AG is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, and was founded in 2009 by researchers from MIT, ETH Zurich and IBM Research. Its privacy policy names the GDPR and the UK GDPR as applicable law and relies on standard contractual clauses for transfers outside the EEA. Its sub-processor list includes Amazon Web Services and Google, both US companies, alongside European providers such as Hetzner in Germany. The investors include the US private-equity firm Warburg Pincus, and the sources reviewed name no majority shareholder. The sources do not describe the SDKs as open source.
