NX, formerly Unigraphics, is integrated CAD/CAM/CAE software from Siemens Digital Industries Software. It covers parametric and direct solid and surface modelling, assembly modelling, freeform surfacing, reverse engineering, sheet metal, finite element analysis and NC programming for CNC machines, robots and 3D printers. Siemens sells it under the names Designcenter (CAD) and NX CAM. Recent releases are available for Windows and Linux; Siemens also describes a free student edition.
NX is owned by Siemens Digital Industries Software, part of Siemens AG, a German company headquartered in Munich. The software is commercial and closed-source, with no open-source option. Because NX is installed as workstation software, your own IT environment determines where models are stored, unless the vendor's cloud offerings are added. For a European organisation, the relevant question is which additional cloud services, such as cloud-based collaboration, are used and where they run; this should be clarified for each service.
