Besides general web search, its site offers dedicated search of WeChat and Zhihu content, as well as images, video, maps, translation, medical information and Chinese-language reference. The company is also known for the Sogou Pinyin input method and the Sogou Browser, and it is the default search engine for Tencent's QQ.

Sogou is headquartered in Beijing, China. It began as the search division of Sohu and has been a subsidiary of Tencent, also a Chinese company, since 2021, so both company and ultimate parent are Chinese. The software is proprietary and not self-hostable.
