timr: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

timr is time-tracking software from troii Software GmbH for small and mid-sized businesses and startups. It records working time with breaks, overtime and absences, and project time with dashboards for planning and budget control. It also includes a leave and absence calendar, a mileage logbook with optional GPS positioning, and support for invoicing clients from tracked time. It can be used in a web browser on a PC, through iOS and Android apps with offline use, and through an app for an Android tablet acting as a time clock. It is delivered as a hosted service.

troii Software GmbH is based in Braunau am Inn, Austria. According to the vendor, the servers are in Germany; its privacy policy names Hetzner Online GmbH as the hosting provider in Germany. The website also displays a GDPR conformity badge. The software is not open source. For a European organisation, this means that, according to the vendor, data is hosted inside the EU by a German provider.

Why digital sovereignty matters with timr

timr is headquartered in AT and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so timr scores best on data residency.

timr is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs timr together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
