WECHANGE: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

WECHANGE (the software is called UniteOS and is built on the Cosinnus codebase) is a collaboration and community platform for municipalities, NGOs, associations, foundations and social organisations. It combines groups and projects with an interactive map, news, polls, calendars, task boards, shared files, joint document editing, chat and video conferencing, building on established open-source tools such as Nextcloud, Rocket.Chat and BigBlueButton. The platform is delivered as a hosted service; wechange.de is the public instance for initiatives and associations.

WECHANGE is offered by wechange eG, a cooperative based in Berlin. The code is open (AGPL) and published on GitHub and on OpenCoDE, the German public-sector code platform. The platforms run at Hetzner, a German company, in data centres in Germany and Finland; wechange concludes a data processing agreement under Article 28 GDPR. Because the code is open, an organisation's own IT team or another provider can also operate the platform. Group admins can export data as CSV or JSON.
