xeokit: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

xeokit is an open-source WebGL toolkit for displaying and navigating BIM and AEC models in the browser. Developers use the xeokit-sdk library to build their own web applications around 3D building models. The vendor also offers xeoVision, a separate viewing product, and commercial licences for organisations that do not want to follow the terms of the AGPL. The website emphasises self-hosting: the viewer, models and conversion tools can run on the customer's own servers.

xeokit is developed by Creoox AG, a company registered in Liechtenstein with its business address in Triesen. Liechtenstein is part of the European Economic Area, so the company's seat is within the EEA. The library is licensed under the AGPL-3.0, a copyleft licence that applies to modified versions and should be reviewed before adoption. Because the toolkit can be self-hosted, a European organisation can keep its building models and infrastructure under its own control.
