Akana is an API management platform from Perforce Software that covers the full API lifecycle. It combines an API gateway, a developer portal and marketplace, analytics, lifecycle governance and automated security policies such as OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect. It handles REST, SOAP and GraphQL, offers a sandbox for open banking standards like PSD2 and, through Akana Sola, exposes mainframe functions as APIs. Perforce says it can be deployed across multiple clouds and on containerised platforms.
Akana began as SOA Software (Los Angeles, 2001) and was renamed in 2015. Rogue Wave Software acquired it in 2016, and Perforce acquired Rogue Wave in 2019. It is a US company with its headquarters listed in Minneapolis, and the software is proprietary. A European organisation therefore deals with a supplier under US jurisdiction, including the CLOUD Act. The vendor's public pages name no hosting regions, so data location depends on where you deploy and on your contract.
