Apache NiFi is an open-source system for processing and distributing data. It is used to automate data flows, for example for cybersecurity, observability, event streams and generative-AI pipelines. Users design, control and monitor flows in a browser-based interface. NiFi records the full provenance of data, supports prioritisation, back pressure and changes to a flow at runtime, and provides HTTPS, multi-tenant authorisation and encrypted communication over TLS and SSH. NiFi is software that you install and operate yourself.
NiFi is developed by the Apache Software Foundation, a US non-profit corporation headquartered in Delaware, under the Apache License 2.0. Because the software is open source and self-hosted, you decide where flows run and where the processed data ends up. A European organisation can therefore deploy NiFi entirely on its own or EU-based infrastructure, without data passing through a service operated by the foundation.
