Apigee is Google Cloud's API management platform. Organisations use it to build API proxies with policies for rate limiting, caching and message transformation, to secure APIs with OAuth2, API keys and IAM, to publish API products and developer portals, and to monitor traffic with analytics dashboards. More recent components address API security and AI, such as LLM token policies and MCP tool management. Apigee is delivered as a Google-managed service; there is also Apigee hybrid, in which the runtime runs on the customer's own Kubernetes clusters.
Google is a US company (part of Alphabet), so Apigee falls under US jurisdiction, including the CLOUD Act. According to the documentation, Apigee offers data residency options, customer-managed encryption keys (CMEK) and multi-region deployment. The product is not open source. A European organisation that wants to keep data in Europe must explicitly choose a European location when setting up the organisation.
