Aporia: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Aporia is an AI observability and guardrails platform founded in 2019. It detects and resolves errors in AI systems in real time, such as hallucinations, prompt injection, bias, drift and security risks, in generative AI applications as well as in classic machine learning models. Organisations use it to monitor and protect applications built on large language models in production. Since December 2024 Aporia has been part of Coralogix: its technology is being integrated into the Coralogix service, and its founders lead the acquirer's AI research centre.

Aporia was acquired by Coralogix, which announced the deal in a press release datelined San Jose, California. The service is a vendor-hosted cloud offering and is not open source. Before the acquisition, Aporia offered an EU region hosted in Germany so that monitoring, analytics and inference data could stay in Europe. A European organisation should confirm with Coralogix which region now processes its data, and under which contract and jurisdiction the service is provided.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Aporia

Aporia is headquartered in IL, outside the EU. Contracts and data therefore also fall under non-European law. The GDPR applies through contractual terms, but in a conflict with local legislation you have less certainty than with a European vendor. The ultimate owner is based in US. Foreign control undermines part of the certainty a European headquarters offers.

Aporia hosts data in US, EU. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

Aporia is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Aporia together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
