Avydos: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Avydos is a self-service platform for simulating distributed denial-of-service attacks against your own systems. Security engineers use it to run controlled stress tests on infrastructure and applications, covering network-layer (Layer 3/4) and application-layer (Layer 7) vectors as well as single- and multi-vector scenarios. Tests can run continuously, with automated reports, real-time dashboards and a DDoS Resiliency Score (DRS) to measure how well defences hold up. According to the vendor, the platform is cloud-based, available around the clock and can be provisioned in a standard or an individual setup. zeroBS also offers training, custom tests, red teaming and compliance reports, for example for DORA and TISAX.

Avydos is developed by zeroBS GmbH, based in Kiel, Germany and, according to its website, founded in 2017; its imprint names no parent company. The product pages do not state where the platform or its test and report data are hosted, so a European organisation should ask about hosting location and data handling before use. Nothing is said about open-source licensing or a self-hosted option.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Avydos

Avydos is headquartered in DE and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Avydos scores best on data residency.

Avydos is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Avydos together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
