BioCatch: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

BioCatch is a fraud and financial-crime platform built mainly for banks. According to the vendor, BioCatch Connect combines real-time telemetry, behavioural analysis and predictive intelligence, drawing on behavioural, device and network signals, to protect account opening, counter account takeover, detect mule accounts and spot scams. Components include the Align SDK, a Push API and a rule manager. The website does not describe the delivery model.

BioCatch Ltd. is an Israeli company, and its website lists Tel Aviv first among its offices. In August 2026 Visa announced an agreement to acquire BioCatch from funds advised by Permira and other shareholders; closing is subject to regulatory approvals, so ownership may move to a US parent. The privacy policy names a data protection officer and an EU representative under Article 27 GDPR, and says transfers from the EEA rely on adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses. Hosting regions are not published; agree them contractually.

Why digital sovereignty matters with BioCatch

BioCatch is headquartered in IL, outside the EU. Contracts and data therefore also fall under non-European law. The GDPR applies through contractual terms, but in a conflict with local legislation you have less certainty than with a European vendor.

BioCatch hosts data outside the EU (OTHER). Personal data therefore leaves the EU, which requires a transfer mechanism under the GDPR and pulls the data residency score down.

BioCatch is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs BioCatch together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
