Boomi: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Boomi is an enterprise integration platform that connects applications, APIs, data and AI agents. It covers iPaaS integration and automation, API management, data management (including Data Hub, ingestion and CDC replication) and Agentstudio for building and governing AI agents. The platform is a cloud service, and according to Boomi, agents and workloads can also run behind your own firewall. It is aimed at industries including manufacturing, healthcare, financial services and the public sector.

Boomi, LP is headquartered in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, and has been owned since 2021 by the US investors Francisco Partners and TPG, who acquired it from Dell. Besides the regular cloud, Boomi offers a European platform instance, hosted in the United Kingdom and backed by multiple data centres across Europe; Boomi states that data, metadata and runtime stay in the region and are not replicated outside a designated region. The UK is outside the EU. Runtimes can be deployed anywhere in Europe, including on your own infrastructure. The product is not open source.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Boomi

Boomi is headquartered in the United States. US vendors fall under the CLOUD Act and FISA 702: US authorities can compel access to data, even when that data sits in a European data centre. That is the core of the jurisdictional exposure in our model.

Boomi hosts data in EU, US, OTHER. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

Boomi is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Boomi together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
