Make.com: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Make is a visual automation platform on which users connect apps, data sources and AI models and build automations and AI agents. You create workflows in a visual editor, in code or with a prompt. The platform offers thousands of ready-made app integrations. It is a cloud service, with a separate page for on-prem agents.

Make grew out of the Czech company Integromat, which Celonis acquired in October 2020. Celonis SE is based in Munich, with a second headquarters in New York, and the US entity Celonis, Inc. appears in the site footer. Accounts run in zones identifiable by subdomain: eu1, eu2, us1 and us2. Make states that its infrastructure runs on Amazon AWS. For transfers to countries without an adequacy decision, Make cites standard contractual clauses. The source code is not open. A European organisation should therefore choose an EU zone deliberately and review the list of subprocessors.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Make.com

Make.com is headquartered in CZ and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data. The ultimate owner is based in DE, also within Europe.

Make.com hosts data in EU, US. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

Make.com is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Make.com together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
