Bruno is an open-source API client for exploring and testing APIs, positioned as a lightweight alternative to Postman and Insomnia. Collections are stored as plain-text files in a folder on your own filesystem, so you can version, compare and share them with your team using Git. Bruno runs as a desktop application on macOS, Windows and Linux; a command-line version is available through npm and as Docker images. Most features are free, and paid versions also exist, including enterprise features such as SSO/SAML and SCIM.
According to the project, Bruno is local-first: it has no cloud sync and needs no account or login, and your data never leaves your machine. The source code is available under the MIT licence on GitHub. For a European organisation this means API definitions and test data stay under your own control, inside your own Git environment. The Bruno name is a trademark held by Anoop M D.
