Citrix Endpoint Management: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Citrix Endpoint Management is a unified endpoint management solution from Citrix. It lets IT teams manage apps, devices and platforms from one console, offers over 300 policies for security and compliance, and covers Android (including Samsung Knox), Apple iOS, iPadOS and macOS, and Windows 10 and 11 devices. According to Citrix it is available as a cloud service or on-premises with the same features, and Citrix runs the infrastructure, scaling and upgrades of the cloud version.

Citrix is a US company. Since 2022 it has been owned by affiliates of Vista Equity Partners and Evergreen Coast Capital, an affiliate of Elliott Investment Management, and has been combined with TIBCO Software. As a US-controlled provider it falls within the reach of the US CLOUD Act. In Citrix Cloud, customers choose a service location from their home region for Endpoint Management; the options include EU West. Organisations that need to keep data in the EU should select that location, or use the on-premises variant.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Citrix Endpoint Management

Citrix Endpoint Management is headquartered in the United States. US vendors fall under the CLOUD Act and FISA 702: US authorities can compel access to data, even when that data sits in a European data centre. That is the core of the jurisdictional exposure in our model.

Citrix Endpoint Management hosts data in EU, OTHER. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

Citrix Endpoint Management is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Citrix Endpoint Management together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
