comforte TAMUNIO: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

TAMUNIO is the data security platform from comforte AG. It discovers and classifies sensitive data in databases, files, logs and data streams, and protects it with tokenisation, format-preserving replacement and file-level encryption. Policies, keys, access and audit trails are managed centrally and can feed a SIEM. The platform is aimed at banks, payment processors, insurers, retailers and other organisations handling sensitive data, and is deployed in hybrid environments: on-premises, across several clouds, or in so-called Data Sovereignty Zones built on confidential computing, where readable data appears only inside a protected enclave.

comforte AG is a German company headquartered in Wiesbaden, with offices in Australia, the United States and Singapore. According to its own website it holds the IT Security Made in Germany and IT Security Made in EU labels. Because the software runs in your own environment, you decide where data and keys are located; the vendor states that with confidential computing the keys remain under the customer's control. No owner outside Europe has been identified.

Why digital sovereignty matters with comforte TAMUNIO

comforte TAMUNIO is headquartered in DE and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

comforte TAMUNIO runs on infrastructure you choose and control yourself. You decide where the data lives, including fully within the EU if you want — this is not a fixed hosting choice made by the vendor.

comforte TAMUNIO is closed source, but you run the software yourself on your own infrastructure. The encryption keys and the runtime therefore stay under your own control, though you cannot audit or modify the source code. Ask about export options and open standards to limit software-level lock-in.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs comforte TAMUNIO together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
