Debezium is an open-source change data capture platform. It reads the inserts, updates and deletes committed to databases and streams them as events, so that other applications can react to changes without querying the source tables. Developers can use it as connectors inside a Kafka Connect cluster, as the standalone Debezium Server that sends events to messaging systems such as Kinesis or Redis without Kafka, or as an embedded library inside their own application. It is aimed at engineering teams that build data pipelines and event-driven systems.
Debezium is licensed under Apache 2.0 and hosted by the Commonhaus Foundation, based in Florida, United States. The project site describes components that the organisation installs itself (Kafka Connect, Debezium Server, the embedded engine and a Kubernetes operator) and does not describe a hosted service. For a European organisation, sovereignty therefore depends on where it installs the software and on the databases and messaging systems it connects. The site names no commercial owner, and so no parent company whose jurisdiction would apply.
