Dell PowerProtect is a product family for data protection and cyber recovery. According to Dell, it includes PowerProtect Data Manager (software protecting on-premises, virtual, cloud-native and multicloud environments), Data Domain (backup appliances), Cyber Recovery (an isolated recovery vault against ransomware) and Backup Services, a SaaS offering for SaaS applications, endpoints and hybrid workloads.
Dell Technologies states in its annual filings with the US securities regulator that its headquarters are in Round Rock, Texas. The software and appliances run on your own infrastructure, so you decide where backups are kept. Backup Services is a Dell-hosted service; its public pages list no regions and contain no GDPR commitment. Because the vendor is a US company, US law applies to the supplier relationship even when the data itself stays in Europe. European organisations can weigh this for management, support and updates.
