DHIS2 is an open-source health information platform for collecting, validating, analysing and sharing health and programme data. It supports offline data capture on mobile devices, configurable dashboards and reporting, and it is used by ministries of health and programmes in many countries, mostly in low- and middle-income settings. DHIS2 is delivered as software that an organisation installs and runs on its own servers, or has hosted by an implementing partner.
The platform is developed and coordinated by the HISP Centre at the University of Oslo, with a global network of local HISP groups and partners. Norway is part of the European Economic Area, so the coordinating organisation sits within the EEA. Because the software is open source and can be self-hosted, a European organisation can keep its data under its own control and avoid dependence on a foreign licence holder. Where an implementing partner hosts the instance, the location of the servers should be confirmed in the contract.
