It accepts card payments on behalf of merchants and also offers payment terminals, point-of-sale systems, an online payment gateway, over-the-phone payments, reporting and management tools, and PCI compliance support. It serves retailers and online shops as well as partners such as software vendors and financial institutions. The services combine hardware, hosted services and APIs for integration.
Elavon, Inc. is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States, and is part of U.S. Bancorp, also a US group. In Europe the Irish entity U.S. Bank Europe DAC operates under the name Elavon Merchant Services and is regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland. The US privacy statement says the online services are controlled and operated from the United States and that information may be stored or processed in any country where Elavon has facilities or engages service providers. A European organisation using Elavon should therefore settle contractually where transaction and customer data is processed, taking the US parent company into account.
