Fingerprint is a device identification platform that recognises browsers and devices returning to a website and uses those signals to detect bots, automation tools and fraud. Customers embed a JavaScript agent in their pages and query a server API for identification and risk results. The product grew from the open-source FingerprintJS library, which remains a separate project, and the service is delivered as SaaS.
The company, FingerprintJS, Inc., is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, and states that it works as a fully remote team across more than 24 countries. When a workspace is created, the customer chooses one region: US (Northern Virginia, the default), EU (Frankfurt) or Asia (Mumbai). The vendor says data does not leave the chosen region, and the choice cannot be changed later. An EU workspace keeps data in Frankfurt, but the US operator remains subject to US law, including the CLOUD Act. The commercial service is not presented as open source.
