Frama-C is an open-source, extensible platform for analysing C source code. Its functions are added through plug-ins, among them Eva, WP and E-ACSL, which support value analysis, deductive verification and run-time checking. Development and verification teams use it to check that C code behaves as its specification describes. The project publishes new versions as numbered releases on its website.
Frama-C is developed by CEA-List, a laboratory of the French Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives (CEA), together with Inria, a French public research institute for digital sciences. Neither is a company with a foreign owner, so no non-European parent is involved. The code is mostly licensed under the LGPL, with some parts under BSD licences, so organisations can inspect, host and adapt it. For a European organisation, it is an open-source tool that runs on its own systems. The project website describes no hosted service.
