fynk: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

fynk is a contract management application from fynk GmbH, used in the browser to create, organise, negotiate and sign agreements. It is aimed at legal, finance, sales, procurement, HR and other teams. An AI assistant searches contracts, drafts documents from templates, compares versions and analyses uploaded PDFs. Further functions include approval workflows, reminders, date tracking, dashboards, an API and e-signatures that fynk describes as eIDAS compliant, including qualified signature options.

fynk is based in Vienna, Austria. According to the vendor, contract content is stored permanently in AWS data centres in Germany, other processing takes place in data centres within the EEA, and the AI assistant also processes data within the EEA. Encrypted backups are kept at other EEA locations. fynk holds ISO 27001 certification. It also states that data can occasionally reach the USA, for example during support requests or error handling. The software is not open source and is offered only as a hosted service, so European organisations depend on the vendor and on its AWS infrastructure.

Why digital sovereignty matters with fynk

fynk is headquartered in AT and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so fynk scores best on data residency.

fynk is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs fynk together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
