GeoNature is an open source biodiversity information system. It consists of web and mobile applications for entering, managing and sharing flora and fauna observations. Around the core sit separately installable components such as Occtax-mobile, GeoNature-atlas, GeoNature-citizen, TaxHub and UsersHub. Nature managers, parks and other biodiversity organisations use it to collect and publish species data. You install GeoNature yourself; an installation script and documentation are available, as well as a public demo.
According to the project site, GeoNature is developed by the French national parks and many other biodiversity stakeholders. The contact point is the information systems team of the Écrins National Park, and copyright is held by, among others, the Écrins and Cévennes national parks and PatriNat. The code is under the GPL-3.0 and public on GitHub. In 2026 the project published a public roadmap. Because you run the software on your own infrastructure, your observation data stays under your own control.
