GNU Health is a free and open-source hospital and health information system. It covers clinical records, hospital administration, laboratory and public health functions, and it is used by hospitals and health programmes in several countries, including national ministries of health and humanitarian organisations. The software is written in Python on the Tryton framework and is installed and run by the health organisation itself, so no vendor cloud is involved in the default setup.
The software is licensed under GPL-3.0-or-later and is developed under GNU Solidario, a non-profit organisation focused on social medicine and health informatics. The organisation is a Spanish non-profit association. Because the code can be inspected, modified and run on the organisation's own servers, it removes the dependence on a foreign vendor contract. Support, hosting and security maintenance have to be arranged separately, with a local or European partner.
