Imgur is an online image-hosting and sharing community. Users upload pictures, GIFs and short videos, share them through links, embed them on other websites, and browse and comment on content in a public gallery. It is delivered as a web service with mobile apps and is aimed at consumers rather than organisations.
Imgur is owned by MediaLab AI, Inc., a US holding company of internet brands that acquired the service in 2021. It is operated from the United States, so uploaded content falls under US jurisdiction, including the CLOUD Act. Imgur's hosting location is not publicly stated; processing in the United States is the working assumption. Since 30 September 2025 Imgur has been unavailable from the United Kingdom, after the UK data regulator issued its owner a notice of intent to fine. For a European organisation, Imgur is a public consumer platform: it offers no self-hosting or EU data residency.
