Jitsi is open-source video conferencing software, with Jitsi Meet as the web application and apps for iOS and Android (App Store, Google Play, F-Droid). Participants can join without an account. Components include Jitsi Videobridge, which forwards audio and video, Jicofo for coordination and Jigasi for dial-in over SIP. End-to-end encryption of audio, video and screen sharing is available in Chromium-based browsers, though not for chat or polls. Besides the public service at meet.jit.si there is a hosted offering called JaaS, and the software can also be installed on your own servers, for example on Debian or Ubuntu.
Jitsi has been owned since 2018 by the US company 8x8, Inc., which also holds the trademark, and is licensed under the Apache License 2.0. Anyone who self-hosts decides where the data is located and gets no preconfigured analytics; jitsi.org itself advises self-hosting with strong authentication for stricter controls. meet.jit.si uses services such as Amplitude, Datadog and Crashlytics, and its physical hosting location is not stated.
