Livebook is an open-source interactive notebook in the browser for writing, running and documenting code. It is built for Elixir and the Erlang VM and supports Markdown, real-time collaboration, custom visualisations, and concurrent and distributed execution. Teams use it for data analysis and machine-learning workflows; support for Python is being added. It is available as a desktop app for Mac, Windows and Linux, as a Docker image and as firmware for embedded devices.
Livebook is maintained by Dashbit, which according to its privacy policy is based in Poland. The source code is on GitHub under the Apache-2.0 licence. Because you install Livebook yourself, notebooks and data can stay on your own infrastructure. The Python extension is being developed with support from NLnet's NGI0 Commons Fund and the European Commission. The project site also offers a template for running Livebook on Hugging Face, a third-party service for which separate arrangements are needed.
