Kibana is the user interface for data stored in Elasticsearch, part of the Elastic Stack. Users search and filter data, build dashboards with charts, maps and tables, run machine-learning jobs for anomaly detection, and define alert rules that trigger integrations such as Slack or PagerDuty. It is used for observability, security analytics and enterprise search. Kibana can be run self-managed on your own servers, or consumed through Elastic Cloud, which is hosted on AWS, Google Cloud or Azure.
Kibana is developed by Elastic N.V., a public company organised under Dutch law with its headquarters in Amsterdam and an operational headquarters in San Francisco; its shares trade on the NYSE. Elastic announced that Kibana and Elasticsearch are available under the AGPL as an additional licence option next to the Elastic License 2.0 and SSPL. For a European organisation, self-managed deployment keeps data on its own infrastructure, while Elastic Cloud runs on US hyperscalers, so the chosen cloud provider and region matter for jurisdiction.
