icCube: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

icCube is an embedded analytics platform from icCube Software Sàrl of Ecublens, near Lausanne. Its core is an in-memory OLAP engine that uses the MDX query language, complemented by a drag-and-drop editor for dashboards, charts and tables. It targets software vendors that want to embed analytics in their own applications. icCube is delivered as a versioned Docker image, as a ZIP file or as a Windows installer, and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux.

The company is based in Switzerland, and its parent company, Misc AG, is also located there. icCube does not host installations itself: the customer runs the software on its own infrastructure, in a private cloud or in a public cloud, and therefore decides where the data is stored. The company's privacy notice names Switzerland as its place of establishment and states that processing may take place inside or outside the EEA. For a European organisation, this makes icCube an option for self-management or a cloud of the organisation's own choosing. The website does not state an open-source licence.

Why digital sovereignty matters with icCube

icCube is headquartered in Switzerland and falls under Swiss law, including the revised Swiss data protection act. Switzerland is not an EU member, but the European Commission recognises its level of data protection as adequate. Its Swiss headquarters does not by itself bring it under US legislation such as the CLOUD Act.

icCube runs on infrastructure you choose and control yourself. You decide where the data lives, including fully within the EU if you want — this is not a fixed hosting choice made by the vendor.

icCube is closed source, but you run the software yourself on your own infrastructure. The encryption keys and the runtime therefore stay under your own control, though you cannot audit or modify the source code. Ask about export options and open standards to limit software-level lock-in.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs icCube together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
