Magrit: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Magrit is a thematic cartography application. You use it to make maps such as choropleth maps, proportional symbol maps, discontinuity maps, smoothed maps and cartograms. You import your own geometry in formats such as GeoJSON, Shapefile and GeoPackage plus tabular data such as CSV, and export the map or a project file. Magrit is designed for teaching and learning thematic cartography. You use it online in the browser, or as a desktop version for Windows, Linux and macOS.

Magrit is developed by UAR RIATE, a support and research unit of the French CNRS and Université Paris Cité, and runs online on a CNRS domain. The code is free software under the GPL version 3. According to the project site, no personal data is collected and the data you use is not sent to remote servers but stays in your browser. You can therefore use Magrit without your data going to the developer. Version 2.4.2 was published in August 2026.
