Microsoft Intune is a cloud-based endpoint management service for enrolling, configuring, securing and updating devices and apps. It supports Android, iOS/iPadOS, Linux, macOS and Windows. Mobile device management controls the whole device, while mobile application management protects only work apps and the data inside them. Administration runs through a web console and the Microsoft Graph API, and Intune relies on Microsoft Entra ID for identities and Conditional Access. Each managed user or device needs a licence.
Intune is delivered by Microsoft, a US company. The service runs in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific, plus local geographies such as Switzerland; the European datacentres are located solely in the EU and EFTA. A tenant's customer data is hosted in the geography matching the country set in its Entra directory, a value that cannot be changed later. According to Microsoft, data at rest stays there, with exceptions such as customer support and legal requirements. Data location can therefore be steered, but the provider remains American.
