Mixpost: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Mixpost is an open-source tool for managing social media content. It lets teams schedule and publish posts to their social accounts, track analytics and manage those accounts from one place. It can be installed on your own server with Docker, as a Laravel package or by manual installation, and it is also offered as Mixpost Cloud, a hosted version. The source code is published under the MIT licence.

Mixpost is built and supported by Inovector Digital S.R.L., a company registered in the Republic of Moldova, which is outside the EU and EEA. Its privacy policy states that media files uploaded to Mixpost Cloud are stored with Hetzner in Germany. Some service providers, including a DNS provider, an error-monitoring service and an AI routing service, are based in the United States, and the policy relies on Standard Contractual Clauses for certain transfers. For a European organisation, self-hosting keeps content on its own servers and avoids sending it to the cloud service.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Mixpost

Mixpost is headquartered in MD, outside the EU. Contracts and data therefore also fall under non-European law. The GDPR applies through contractual terms, but in a conflict with local legislation you have less certainty than with a European vendor.

Mixpost hosts data in EU, US. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

Mixpost is open source. You can audit the source code, self-host the software and keep the encryption keys under your own control. Switching is easier because data and software are not tied to a single party.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Mixpost together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
