MooseFS is a distributed, fault-tolerant file system that spreads data across several storage servers and presents it as a single resource. It can be mounted as a POSIX file system, used as a block device for virtual machines and databases, or accessed through a C API. The Community Edition is open-source software under the GNU General Public License version 2, while the PRO edition adds features such as high availability, advanced redundancy and a native Windows client. It runs on the organisation's own servers rather than as a vendor-hosted service.
The company behind MooseFS is Saglabs SA, based in Warsaw, Poland, so the vendor is headquartered in the EU. Because the Community Edition is open source and self-hosted, an organisation keeps its data on infrastructure it controls and can inspect the code. No parent company of Saglabs SA is named. For a European organisation the questions are mainly operational: who runs the deployment, whether PRO features are needed, and which support and data-processing terms apply.
