MyHeritage is an online genealogy platform with family trees, a large archive of historical records and DNA testing. MyHeritage DNA, launched in 2016, provides ethnicity estimates and finds relatives through shared DNA; testing is carried out in a laboratory in Texas. The service is delivered as a website and as apps for iOS and Android, with a freemium model. Users can permanently delete their DNA data, and the company states it does not sell or license genetic data.
MyHeritage is headquartered in Or Yehuda, Israel, and has been owned by the US private equity firm Francisco Partners since 2021, which makes a US parent the CLOUD-Act signal. According to its privacy policy, personal information is transferred, processed and stored in data centres in the United States, DNA samples are stored in the US, and cloud storage comes from Amazon and Google Cloud. Transfers outside the EEA rely on the EU Commission's standard contractual clauses. The policy names no European data centres, so for a European organisation or individual genetic data sits on US infrastructure under a US parent.
