The DNS Firewall of the Lithuanian National Cyber Security Centre (NKSC/NCSC) is a free public DNS service with an added security function. It blocks access to known malicious sites, such as fake bank websites, fraudulent trading platforms, sites that distribute malicious code. A user who opens a blocked address is notified. The centre continuously updates the blocklist. All Lithuanian internet users and organisations can use it by changing the DNS settings on their devices.
The NKSC operates under the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence. The technical solution was built and is managed by DOMREG, the Internet Service Centre of Kaunas University of Technology and the registry of the .lt domain. It is therefore run by Lithuanian bodies with no non-European parent company. According to the launch announcement, the NKSC and DOMREG do not collect information about users who activate the tool and do not monitor the content they browse. The announcement dates from October 2022.
