Omnissa Workspace ONE: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Omnissa Workspace ONE is a product line for unified endpoint management (UEM) and digital workspace management. Organisations use it to manage and secure Windows, Mac, mobile and virtual devices from a single platform under a common set of policies. The line includes Workspace ONE UEM and Workspace ONE Experience Management and is part of the broader Omnissa platform covering devices, apps, identity and user experience.

Omnissa, LLC is based in Mountain View, California. It is the former End User Computing division of VMware, which Broadcom sold to KKR, a US private equity firm. With a US parent, the CLOUD Act may apply to data held in European data centres. There is also the Omnissa Sovereign Solution, a Workspace ONE environment hosted and serviced locally together with partner GEMA International, currently available in Germany and Austria. The software is proprietary; hosting it under your own control is only possible through such a partner.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Omnissa Workspace ONE

Omnissa Workspace ONE is headquartered in the United States. US vendors fall under the CLOUD Act and FISA 702: US authorities can compel access to data, even when that data sits in a European data centre. That is the core of the jurisdictional exposure in our model.

Omnissa Workspace ONE hosts data in US, EU. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

Omnissa Workspace ONE is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Omnissa Workspace ONE together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
