Pentaho is a data integration and analytics platform. It consists of Pentaho Data Integration, an ETL tool also known as Kettle, and Pentaho Business Analytics, complemented by embedded analytics, Pentaho for AI and plugins. It is used in sectors such as financial services, insurance, healthcare and manufacturing. Pentaho is software that organisations install and operate themselves; the source code of Pentaho Data Integration is published on GitHub and built with Maven and Java.
Pentaho began in 2004 as an open-source business intelligence platform. Hitachi acquired it in 2015 and it has been part of Hitachi Vantara since 2017. Secondary sources report that Pentaho was acquired in June 2026 by LEO Software, which is backed by Constellation Software; no detailed official announcement has been found. Licence and edition terms have changed over time: the Developer Edition is available only to students and universities. You should therefore check the licence of the version you use. Because you run the software on your own infrastructure, you decide where data is processed.
