Printify: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Printify is a print-on-demand platform founded in 2015 in Riga, Latvia. Sellers choose products from its catalogue, add their designs and set their own margins. A network of print providers around the world produces and ships the orders. The service is offered online and connects online shops with customers in many countries.

The operating company, Printify Development SIA, is a Latvian company with its headquarters in Riga. Its privacy policy names a US parent company and states that personal data may be transferred to or accessed by that parent in the United States. For transfers outside the EEA, the policy refers to European Commission model clauses. Where the platform stores data is not stated. In November 2024 Printify announced a merger with Printful, described as a partnership of equals, with both brands kept. For European organisations the operator is an EU company, but the US group link is part of the picture and should be addressed in contracts.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Printify

Printify is headquartered in LV and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data. The ultimate owner is based in US. Foreign control undermines part of the certainty a European headquarters offers.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Printify scores best on data residency.

Printify is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Printify together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
