Project Asago (AI Safety And Governance Orchestration) is an open-source project from Red Hat that turns AI governance policy into technical controls. It reads governance policies, maps them through the IBM AI Risk Atlas to frameworks such as the NIST AI RMF, the OWASP LLM Top 10 and the EU AI Act, generates safety tests for the identified risks and recommends mitigations such as guardrails. It also produces deployment-ready configurations for Kubernetes, Terraform and Ansible, with an audit trail from policy clause to runtime control. It targets DevOps and GitOps workflows.
Asago is released under the Apache 2.0 licence and is a community project in its formation phase, not a hosted service. Red Hat started it; founding members include IBM Research, Microsoft, NVIDIA, MIT Lincoln Laboratory and the Alan Turing Institute. Because the code is open, you can run asago yourself and keep policies and test results in your own environments. The project is still taking shape: expect changing functionality and a governance structure that has not yet been formally described.
