Pydio Cells: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Pydio Cells is a self-hosted file sharing and collaboration platform for organisations. It offers large file transfers, no-code automation through Cells Flows, access control with ACLs, SSO and two-factor authentication, advanced search, automated tagging and metadata management. Named use cases include virtual data rooms, digital asset management and document portals. The backend is written in Go and the source code is available on GitHub under the AGPL-3.0 licence; community and paid support subscriptions are offered.

Pydio is a French company based in Paris. In January 2025 Wire, a Berlin-based secure messaging and video calling company, announced the acquisition of Pydio. Wire plans to combine Cells with its own encrypted communications platform as Wire Cells. Because Cells is self-hosted, the organisation decides where the data resides, for example in an EU data centre or on its own servers. Both the vendor and its parent company are based in the EU.
