RaiPlay is the streaming platform of RAI, the Italian public broadcaster. It offers the RAI television channels live and through replay of the past seven days, together with an on-demand catalogue of programmes, drama, documentaries, children's shows and films, as well as the Teche RAI archive and original productions. The service is free and available through the website raiplay.it, apps for smartphones and tablets, and apps for smart TVs and other streaming devices. Live channels can be watched without an account; on-demand content and personal lists require a free RAI account. The offer is in Italian.
RAI is headquartered in Rome and is a joint-stock company whose shares are almost entirely held by the Italian state. It has no foreign parent. RaiPlay is a hosted service run by the broadcaster itself; there is no open-source version or self-hosting option. For a European organisation this means the service falls under Italian and European law, and using a public broadcaster creates no direct dependence on a non-European owner.
