Rivery: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Rivery is a cloud ELT and data pipeline platform. It extracts data from applications and databases, including through change data capture, and loads it into a data lake or cloud data warehouse. Transformations can be written in SQL or Python, and the platform adds orchestration, reverse ETL back into operational tools, and monitoring and deployment features for pipelines. It is delivered as a hosted cloud service.

Rivery was founded in 2019 as an Israeli startup. Boomi announced its acquisition in December 2024, and Rivery's documentation now sits within Boomi's help site. Boomi is an American company owned by the private equity firms TPG and Francisco Partners, so the ultimate parent is in the US, which is relevant for the CLOUD Act. Rivery offers a multi-region configuration with servers in the US or the EU, so EU customers can keep their data on EU servers.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Rivery

Rivery is headquartered in IL, outside the EU. Contracts and data therefore also fall under non-European law. The GDPR applies through contractual terms, but in a conflict with local legislation you have less certainty than with a European vendor. The ultimate owner is based in US. Foreign control undermines part of the certainty a European headquarters offers.

Rivery hosts data in EU, OTHER. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

Rivery is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Rivery together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
