RobinHood (version 4) is a suite of tools for storing and querying the metadata of a file system. It is aimed at administrators of large file systems, for example in computing centres. The library librobinhood is the foundation for components such as rbh-sync, rbh-fsevents, rbh-find, rbh-report, rbh-info and rbh-undelete. It works with Lustre and with any POSIX file system; optional backends include Lustre, mfu, S3 and SQLite. It is built from source with meson and ninja, or as an RPM package.
The code carries the copyright of the French CEA (Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives), a public research organisation. It is released under LGPL 3.0 or later, in a public repository with active development in 2026. You install it yourself on your own servers, so your metadata stays under your control; the developer offers no hosted service. It is a niche product for HPC environments and mainly relevant as an open tool for managing very large file systems.
