RTVE Play is the streaming platform of RTVE, the Spanish public broadcaster. It offers on-demand content from channels such as La 1, La 2, Teledeporte, Canal 24 Horas and the youth platform Playz: series, films, documentaries and delayed news. In Spain the service is free and requires no subscription; it replaced RTVE a la carta in June 2021. There are apps for Android and iOS, a web version and a smart-TV version. Features include subtitles, playback synchronisation between devices, downloads for offline viewing and casting to a TV. Outside Spain, a separate international service called RTVE Play+ exists.
RTVE is a state-owned company in the form of a joint-stock company fully held by the Spanish state; its headquarters are in Pozuelo de Alarcón. It has no foreign parent. The service is not open source and cannot be self-hosted. For a European organisation this means a public Spanish operator under Spanish and European law.
