Stoplight is a platform for designing, documenting and governing APIs, based on a design-first workflow with OpenAPI. Alongside the commercial hosted platform the open-source projects Spectral, Prism and Elements are available: a linter for API specifications, an API mocking tool and embeddable API documentation.
The Stoplight website names SmartBear as its parent company, and SmartBear's company page gives its global headquarters as Somerville, Massachusetts, in the United States. SmartBear announced the acquisition of Stoplight in 2023. The public Stoplight pages name no separate headquarters and no hosting regions; they link to SmartBear's privacy and security pages. SmartBear's trust centre lists GDPR and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework among its compliance statements. A European organisation should ask SmartBear in writing where Stoplight customer data is stored and which sub-processors are used.
