TelemetryTV: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

TelemetryTV is a cloud-based digital signage platform with apps for managing content, custom apps and devices across screen and kiosk networks. You upload media and documents, use turnkey apps (including YouTube, Canva and menu boards) and schedule playlists by location, room or device, with auto-expiring rules. Custom web apps can be built with an SDK and Git integration. It also offers touch-screen kiosk tools, IPTV streaming alongside signage, and enterprise controls such as user permissions, admin approval of content changes and user logs. You can use TelemetryTV's own hardware or install its app on your own devices.

Customers choose the region where their data is stored when they create an account: USA, Canada, Europe, the UK or Asia-Pacific. The choice cannot be changed afterwards, and according to the documentation users in the global region are stored in a US data centre by default. The services are hosted on Amazon AWS, Netlify and Digital Ocean. A European organisation that selects the Europe region can therefore have its account data stored in Europe.

Why digital sovereignty matters with TelemetryTV

TelemetryTV is headquartered in CA, outside the EU. Contracts and data therefore also fall under non-European law. The GDPR applies through contractual terms, but in a conflict with local legislation you have less certainty than with a European vendor.

TelemetryTV hosts data in EU, US, OTHER. Exactly what stays within the EU — and what does not — is defined by the vendor's data processing agreement and sub-processor list, not by a setting you control yourself; check those documents for the precise scope, including backups, logs and support access.

TelemetryTV is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs TelemetryTV together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
