TikTok is a short-form video platform where users watch, create and share videos. It is delivered as a mobile app and website, and also offers features for advertisers and sellers. For users in the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, TikTok Technology Limited (Ireland) and TikTok Information Technologies UK Limited are joint controllers of user data.
TikTok lists Los Angeles and Singapore as its global headquarters. The parent company is ByteDance, and according to Wikipedia TikTok Ltd was incorporated in the Cayman Islands. TikTok's privacy policy for the EEA states that data is stored on servers in the United States, Malaysia and Singapore, and that group entities outside the user's country of residence can be given limited remote access, with standard contractual clauses used as transfer safeguards. The service is proprietary and not open source. European organisations that use TikTok for communication or advertising should take these storage locations and ByteDance's ownership into account.
