TVPaint Animation is a 2D animation program based on bitmap technology that aims to preserve the look and feel of drawing on paper. Studios, animation schools and independent animators use it for hand-drawn animation and storyboarding. The Standard edition covers the core drawing and animation tools, such as layer folders, custom brushes, a lightbox and a scan cleaner; Professional adds storyboarding, bitmap puppet rigging, a 2D camera and advanced effects, among other things. It is a desktop application for Windows, macOS and Linux with a one-time licence.

TVPaint is developed by TVPaint Développement, a French company with its registered office in Metz. The software is not open source. Because it is locally installed software, drawings and projects do not need to go to a cloud environment run by the vendor. According to its legal notice, the company's website is hosted by IONOS in France. For European studios this means a supplier under EU law and a way of working in which production material stays under their own control.
